Committees                                                      

As a bottom-up, committee driven organization, the Independence Chamber relies on its members as the decision makers of all programmatic functions. We are organized into six standing committees and six subcommittees listed below. Participation on committees and subcommittees is open to all members in good standing, with Board of Director approval. If you meet that criteria and would like to join a committee or subcommittee listed below, please fill out the Volunteer Committee Form.

Standing Committees

Community Development Committee

Responsibilities: Improving and promoting the quality of life in Independence through the planning and presentation of community events, leadership programs, coordination of the Ford New Generation Learning Academies, as well as assisting with the revitalization of older commercial corridors – Meets Monthly


Marketing Committee

Responsibilities: Overseeing and managing the utilization of social media, electronic communications, public relations, and publications to promote the offerings within the Independence business community and the Chamber as well as to highlight innovative and successful approaches in the practice of commerce – Meets Monthly


Membership Services Committee

Responsibilities: Lead planning of membership luncheons and Business After Hours. Call on new members. Support current members and encourage greater stakeholder involvement, participation and visibility in Chamber activities through networking, marketing and lead generation. Connect with past due members to understand their needs and how the Chamber can fill those needs. This is a highly visible and active committee. – Meets Monthly


Public Policy Committee

Responsibilities: Facilitating the creation, promotion, and advocacy of public policy positions important to the economic vitality of the Independence business community – Meets Monthly

SantaCaliGon Committee

Responsibilities: Planning and executing Independence's signature event - the largest and oldest street festival in Jackson County – Meets Monthly


Small Business Development Committee

Responsibilities: Developing additional capacities within small business members to positively impact their operational knowledge necessary to create a prosperous business environment –Meets Monthly

Subcommittees

Ambassadors Subcommittee (Subcommittee of Membership Services Committee)

Responsibilities: To lead recruitment of new members for the Chamber, serve as greeters/hosts for select Chamber events and call on members reconsidering membership. This is a highly visible and active subcommittee – Meets Monthly


Eastern Jackson County Business Expo Subcommittee (Subcommittee of Small Business Development Committee)

Responsibilities: Planning and executing a showcase for local businesses to display and promote their products and/or services to the broader community at one convenient location –Schedule determined by the subcommittee


Annual Awards Banquet Subcommittee (Subcommittee of Community Development Committee)

Responsibilities: Helping to plan a formal event celebrating and highlighting the leadership of the business community in the betterment of Independence and Eastern Jackson County –Schedule determined by the subcommittee


Golf Classic Subcommittee (Subcommittee of the Membership Services Committee)

Responsibilities: Planning and executing the annual Chamber golf outing for members and guests – Schedule determined by the subcommittee

Halloween Parade Subcommittee (Subcommittee of Community Development Committee)

Responsibilities: Organizing and implementing an annual parade featuring floats, bands, dance groups and motored entries in celebration of Halloween –Schedule determined by the subcommittee


L.E.A.D. Independence Subcommittee (Subcommittee of Community Development Committee)

Responsibilities: Crafting a curriculum to educate participants from member organizations about an array of critical issues affecting Independence and to help enhance leadership skills for greater success in career and civic positions – Schedule determined by the subcommittee.
