In July of 2015, the Independence Chamber of Commerce implemented a new initiative within the organization; the Independence Civic Council (ICC). The purpose of the ICC is to support Independence initiates that improve the climate of success for Independence businesses, and quality of life for residents.
How does it work?
The ICC is comprised of Chamber members who donate $500 annually. Each member receives a single vote at every meeting. The goal is 50 members and with that goal met, the ICC anticipates $25,000 per year to donate to select worthy causes.
To request funding, an entity must complete and submit a request form provided by the Chamber staff liaison. Upon approval of the ICC Chairperson, a meeting of the ICC is scheduled. Members of the ICC are invited to hear proposals of selected candidates. Following a presentation, a private discussion among ICC members will result in a vote. A simple majority vote of the ICC members present will approve or deny any request for funding. A second vote of the ICC members is required to determine the amount invested.
The ICC convenes only when there is an approved funding request.
